HB 5182 letter

HB 5182, introduced by Republican Margaret O'Brien, is portrayed as protecting pregnant women from being coerced into having an abortion.

Despite what is stated by Republicans, this law is redundant and simply another attempt to chip away at Roe v. Wade and the reproductive rights of women. There are existing laws to address assault, stalking and other harassment. These protections clearly don’t disappear because a woman is pregnant.

Who decides if a woman is being coerced? Who protects a women from coercion by the State? Who protects a women who desires an abortion from coercion from religious groups, family, the State, or other individuals?

Clearly this bill is another attempt to oppress women. Shame on Rep. O'Brien for introducing it! Shame on you if you vote yes on this unnecessary and oppressive legislation.  I urge you to vote NO!
